Cherokee County Jail Roster
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office publishes the official roster choice page, which separates current inmates from people released within 48 hours. The current roster lists people held at the Cherokee County Detention Center. The released roster is a short-window list for recent releases, not a full criminal-history archive. Both paths are free, public, and available without a login.
The roster is the strongest starting point for local detention center custody because the sheriff FAQ says all inmates are published to the website when booked, along with charge and available bond information. Live roster counts can change quickly. The May 27, 2026 inspection observed 87 current inmates and 6 entries on the 48-hour release roster, but those figures should be treated as point-in-time observations rather than fixed population statistics.
The official roster chooser screenshot shows the two sheriff-controlled routes a searcher must choose between before reaching current custody or recent release entries.
This choice matters because a person who left custody may no longer appear on the current roster even if the booking was recent.
Use Cherokee County Inmate Search
Start with the current roster when the person may still be in the Cherokee County Detention Center. If a current search is blank, use the 48-hour release roster before assuming the person was never booked. The public roster exposes name search, show-all, name sort, date sort, current and released tabs, pagination, and profile links. It does not show an advanced search screen, export feature, charge filter, housing dropdown, date-of-birth field, or booking-number search field.
- Open the sheriff's roster chooser and choose Current Inmates or 48 Hour Release.
- Use the Search By Name field. If a full name fails, try the last name first.
- Use date sorting for a recent booking and name sorting for spelling checks.
- Open View Profile to read the booking number, photo, arresting agency, charges, and booking time.
- Call detention staff when bail, charges, or case numbers must be current.
- If no jail match appears, move to ADOC, BOP, ICE, VINELink, or court records based on custody type.
Cherokee County Roster Search Fields
The public roster has a lean search interface. It is helpful for a fast name search, but it does not replace direct jail contact when the person was just arrested or when a bond company needs exact case numbers. The roster platform also has date, name, pagination, current, and released controls that can change the visible list without creating a separate case record.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Search By Name | Text | Unspecified | The page exposes a name search box. No minimum-character rule is posted. |
| Search | Button | n/a | Submits the name search. |
| Show All | Link or button | n/a | Clears the filter and displays visible entries for the chosen list. |
| Name | Sort link | No | Sorts or filters by name, including alphabetic URL patterns. |
| Date | Sort link | No | Sorts by booking date or release date, depending on the list. |
| Current / Released | Tab links | No | Switches between current custody and the 48-hour release list. |
| View Profile | Link per inmate | n/a | Opens the detailed roster profile for that booking. |
Cherokee County Inmate Profile
A full profile gives more context than the roster card, but it still leaves some items off the public screen. A sample profile inspected during research displayed booking number, age, gender, race, address field, arresting agency, booking date and time, charges, and mugshot. It did not display housing location, court date, warrant number, projected release date, full date of birth, medical information, attorney information, or victim information.
The sample inmate profile screenshot below illustrates the fields that appeared during inspection. Live profile identities should not be reused as evergreen content because jail custody changes.
The profile layout is useful for field recognition, while current bail, charges, and case numbers still need jail confirmation when timing matters.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Mugshot | Front-facing booking photo shown on the roster and profile. |
| Booking Number | Numeric local identifier for the detention center booking. |
| Booking Date | Date and time entered in the jail system. |
| Charges | Booking charge text that can change after court appearances. |
| Arresting Agency | Agency name and identifier tied to the arrest or booking. |
| Release Date | Shown on released roster summaries, not every current profile. |
| Profile Note | Directs callers to detention staff for correct bail, charges, and case numbers. |
Cherokee County Custody Fallbacks
A blank roster search does not prove there is no custody record. Booking may be incomplete. The person may have bonded out and moved to the release list. A sentenced person may have left the local jail for ADOC. A federal pretrial detainee may be under the U.S. Marshals Service and not yet appear in BOP custody. Immigration custody uses ICE ODLS, and juvenile or youthful-offender matters may be restricted from public display.
| Situation | Next Channel |
|---|---|
| Current local custody | Cherokee County current inmate roster. |
| Released in the last two days | 48-hour release roster. |
| Sentenced state prisoner | ADOC inmate search. |
| Federal sentenced prisoner | BOP inmate locator. |
| Immigration custody | ICE Online Detainee Locator System. |
| Custody notification | VINELink Alabama or 1-877-846-3425. |
Cherokee County Jail Contact
The Cherokee County Detention Center is the contact point for local jail custody, booking confirmation, and current bail or charge details that are not clear online. The sheriff's site also lists a 24-hour non-emergency number and dispatch. The administrative office hours help for records and counter needs, but jail intake and release activity can occur outside business hours.

Cherokee County Booking Records
Booking records begin with intake at the detention center. The local sequence usually includes arrest or court commitment, transport to the jail, identity entry, booking number assignment, booking photo, charge entry, arresting-agency entry, medical screening access, classification, and public roster publication. The public profile can show the booking event, but it does not show every internal jail step.
Alabama court timing is separate from roster timing. Rule 4.3 addresses probable-cause and first-court timing after arrest, and Rule 4.4 addresses initial-appearance advisements and release-condition decisions. A jail booking can be visible before the court record is complete, and later court action can change the charges, bond, or custody status. For filed charges and case status, use the Circuit Clerk or court portal rather than treating the roster as the final court record.
Important: A roster charge is an arrest or booking entry. It is not proof of conviction or final court disposition.
Cherokee County Visitation Records
Visitation at the Cherokee County Detention Center is video only. The sheriff's detention page says visits are available seven days a week through InmateSales, and users must create an account and appointment online. Officers cannot schedule visits for the public. The research did not locate a county-posted table of time blocks, visit lengths, dress code, minor rules, or remote-video pricing.
| Item | Published Rule | Source Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Visit type | Video visitation only | Effective as posted by the detention page. |
| Schedule | 7 days a week | No hour-by-hour schedule posted. |
| Vendor | InmateSales | Account and appointment required online. |
| Staff scheduling | Officers cannot schedule visits | Public must use the vendor channel. |
| Help phone | 1-877-998-5678 | Also used in phone-account context. |
Cherokee County Mail and Funds
Personal mail goes to a JailATM processing address where it is opened, scanned, and made available electronically to the inmate for 14 days. Legal mail goes directly to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. Business and transactional documents also go directly to the sheriff's office but must be routed to the business office with the inmate's name and number. General correspondence mixed into business documents is destroyed under the policy.
| Service | Provider or Address | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Personal mail | JailATM.com - Cherokee County Jail, Inmate Name / Inmate Number, 1605 Beltline Rd SW D8 #244, Decatur, AL 35601 | Scanned and made available electronically for 14 days. |

| Commissary funds | Legacy Cashier lobby machine or JailATM | Lobby machine accepts cash and cards. JailATM requires inmate details. |
| Phone funds | CPC kiosk, CPCJail.com, or 1-877-998-5678 | Kiosk accepts cash, credit, or debit cards. |
Request Cherokee County Jail Records
For records that are not on the public roster, use the sheriff's office and detention center channels. The sheriff FAQ says incident and offense reports can be obtained at the Sheriff's Office during normal business hours. Booking details, bond changes, and case-number questions should be handled by phone when current accuracy matters. The sheriff contact page also warns that email is not monitored 24/7 and is not secure for confidential personal information.
Court documents are a separate request path. The Cherokee County Circuit Clerk handles circuit and district court records at the courthouse and through official request forms. If the question is about the filed charge, case number, disposition, fine, warrant, or cash bond, the clerk path is usually more accurate than the jail roster. For statewide prison records after transfer, use ADOC public records channels rather than the county jail.
Note: Do not send Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, bank details, medical details, or sensitive personal data through a plain web contact form.
Cherokee County Charge Abbreviations
The sheriff detention page lists local abbreviations that often appear in roster charge text. Reading them correctly helps separate a booking entry from a court disposition. These abbreviations are not the whole case file, but they are useful signals when checking whether a custody event came from a new arrest, a court order, a failure to appear, or grand jury action.
- TOP
- Theft of Property.
- UPODP
- Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
- UPOCS
- Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance.
- FTA / FTP
- Failure to Appear or Failure to Pay.
- GJI
- Grand Jury Indictment.
Cherokee County App and VINE
The Cherokee County AL Sheriff app is a secondary official channel for sheriff information. The sheriff app page links to Google Play and Apple App Store. Store listings advertise inmate information, most wanted, sex offenders, press releases, crime tips, contact messages, and alerts. The research did not confirm a broader app-only roster, so the web roster remains the primary documented source.
VINE is for custody information and notification, not a full replacement for the roster. Cherokee County participates in VINE, and the detention page gives phone access at 1-877-846-3425. Use VINE when release, transfer, or escape notification matters, then verify the underlying custody record with the sheriff, ADOC, BOP, or ICE as appropriate.
Note: Confirm custody status before sending money, scheduling a visit, or relying on a released-roster entry.
